Catch recording in Wales – ready to record from 00:01hrs 28 February 2020

From 00:01 hrs on 28 February, catch recording requirements will be introduced in Wales via a fishing vessel licence condition.

Note: Recording Quota Catch

Fishers in Wales have raised concerns in relation to recording quota catch prior to landing. In recognition, the Welsh Government have extended the quota species reporting timescale to 24 hours, the same as for non-quota species.

Landing Shellfish to Store Pots
If you complete a fishing trip where you are landing directly to a store pot, you should complete and submit the catch record for what you have placed into the store pot. The catch recording service has a section for recording the shellfish placed into store pots.

You are not required to complete a separate catch record when you empty the store pot.

Further information

The mobile app (which has been developed for Apple and Android devices) as well as a web version, can be used on a phone, tablet or computer. The app allows records to be logged even when the service is off-line as the information is stored and then automatically sent when the device comes back into an area where online reception is available.

For those wishing to phone through details of their catch there is a contact centre staffed from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. At other times, the contact centre will run an automated service allowing fishers to leave their catch record.

The contact centre number is 0300 0203 788 (calls to 03 numbers cost no more than a national rate call to an 01 or 02 number and must count towards any inclusive minutes in the same way as 01 and 02 calls).
