Introduction of catch recording for u10m 28th February

An update from Welsh Government on the introduction of catch recording for licensed fishing boats under 10 metres in length:

Catch recording requirements will be introduced in Wales via a fishing vessel licence condition on 28 February 2020.

Fishers were invited to register on the system from December 2019. There are still some Fishers who haven’t registered and we would encourage them to do so as soon as possible. Fishers can set up their preferences saving them time in the future when it comes to recording their catch.

We held a number of successful training events throughout Wales in January 2020 and will continue to offer one to one support at local Welsh Government offices by appointment using contact numbers:

03000 258923

03000 258907

Due to the nature of our work fishers may be transferred to our answering service, we would encourage them to leave a message and we will call back as soon as possible.

Fishers have raised concerns in relation to recording quota catch prior to landing. In recognition, Welsh Government have extended the quota species reporting to 24 hours, the same as non-quota species.

For those who will be phoning their catch through to the contact centre, phones will be staffed from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. At other times, the contact centre will run an automated service allowing fishers to leave their catch record.

The contact centre number is 0300 0203 788 (Calls to 03 numbers cost no more than a national rate call to an 01 or 02 number and must count towards any inclusive minutes in the same way as 01 and 02 calls).
