WHELK MANAGEMENT MEASURES 2020 CONSULTATION: EXTENSION

The Welsh Government has extended the consultation on management measures for the whelk fishery as explained in their letter below:

Dear Stakeholder,

From 16 March 2020 to 7 June 2020 the Welsh Government held a public consultation on new proposed whelk management measures including:

The consultation received 57 responses and an analysis of these responses is available on the Welsh Government consultation website.

Some respondents raised concerns about the timing of the consultation and stakeholder’s ability to respond during the Covid-19 outbreak. In light of this, we will be extending the consultation for a period of four weeks from 5 October to 1 November to ensure everyone with an interest has had the opportunity to respond.

If you responded to the initial consultation earlier this year you do not need to respond again, your previous response will be taken into account.

We will be writing to all licensed fishers announcing this extension, furthermore there will be an advert placed in the Fishing News and we will make use of existing Welsh Government social media to promote the extension.

Should you have any further questions or wish to discuss further, please feel free to contact me either by return email or on the phone number listed below.

Yours faithfully,

Ed Tugwell
