Letter from the Marine Energy Hub in Pembrokeshire regarding Blue Gem Wind's floating offshore wind project 'Valorous'

Dear Sir or Madam,

 

On behalf of our client, Blue Gem Wind (BGW), we would like to introduce their proposed early‑commercial scale floating offshore wind project; Valorous.

 

Valorous is a proposed 300 MW floating offshore wind project in the Celtic Sea, approximately 47 km from the South West coast of Pembrokeshire. The key project elements include:

• 18 to 31 Wind Turbine Generator with an indicative nameplate rating of between 9.5 MW and 16 MW housed on floating (semi-submersible) platforms;
• A single offshore substation;
• Inter-array cables and up to 2 offshore export cables to landfall on the Angle Peninsula;
• Onshore cabling between landfall and the agreed National Grid operated 400kV Pembroke Substation connection point at Pembroke Power Station; and
• An onshore substation close to the grid connection point.

The attached Valorous Project Introduction Document provides further project details including an indicative timeline for development and how to engage with the project.

 

Valorous follows on from BGW’s 96 MW demonstration floating offshore wind project, Erebus and will form part of BGW’s “stepping-stone” approach to reaching commercial scale developments.

 

We are currently seeking an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Scoping Opinion from Natural Resources Wales (NRW). The Scoping Report accompanying the request will be available to view on the NRW public register and BGW’s website later this week.
